DIGITAL GAME DESIGN


Profile of the Program

The Undergraduate Program in Game Design is aimed to fulfill local and global achievements by providing human resource to the gaming industry and creating innovative projects and teams. In the light of an interdisciplinary approach, the Digital Gaming Design Undergraduate Program not only provides a search for software, arts and design fields, but also offers an interdisciplinary work environment, particularly with the support of Engineering and Education Faculties, throughout our university. In addition to the Master Program in Game Design (BUG) established under the Bahcesehir University Game Laboratory (BUG) and the Institute of Social Sciences established at the Faculty of Communication, BUG Berlin, game production studio BUG Pro and virtual reality incubation center VR First BAU departments directly contribute to the program.

This is a Bachelor’s Degree (First Cycle) program.

Specific Admission Requirements

Student admission for this undergraduate program is made through university entrance examinations (YGS-LYS) prepared in the framework of the regulations set by Higher Education Council of Turkey (YÖK). International students are accepted to this undergraduate program according to the score of one of the international exams they take such as SAT,ACT etc. or according to their high school diploma score. Exchange student admission is made according to the requirements determined by bilateral agreements signed by BAU and the partner university. Visiting students can enroll for the courses offered in this program upon the confirmation of the related academic unit. Additionally, they need to prove their English language level since the medium of instruction at BAU is English.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The students studying in this undergraduate program are required to have a Cumulative Grade Points Average (Cum.GPA) of not less than 2.00/4.00 and have completed all the courses with at least a letter grade of D/S in the program in order to graduate. The minimum number of ECTS credits required for graduation is 240. It is also mandatory for the students to complete their compulsory internship 30 work days of duration and at the corporations approved by the department.

Recognition of Prior Learning

At Bahcesehir University , full-time students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related by laws. If the content of the course previously taken in another institution is equivalent to the course offered at BAU, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the related faculty/graduate school after the evaluation of the course content.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Students who study in this program specialize in game design and development in ever growing digital environment. Graduates of the program gain the chance to be game designers, game developers, game visual artists, game producers, game project managers, game writers, game sound designers, or game economists.

Access to Further Studies

The students graduating from this program may apply to second cycle (Master's degree) programs.

Program Outcomes

1 Comprehend the conceptual importance of the game in the field of communication, ability to implement the player centered application to provide design.
2 Analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information and ideas from various perspectives.
3 Analyze the key elements that make up specific game genres, forms of interactions, mode of narratives and understand how they are employed effectively to create a successful game.
4 Understand game design theories and methods as well as implement them during game development; to make enjoyable, attractive, instructional and immersive according to the target audience.
5 Understand the technology and computational principles involved in developing games and master the use of game engines.
6 Understand the process of creation and use of 2D and 3D assets and animation for video games.
7 Understand and master the theories and methodologies of understanding and measuring player experience and utilize them during game development process.
8 Comprehend and master how ideas, concepts and topics are conveyed via games followed by the utilization of these aspects during the development process.
9 Manage the game design and development process employing complete documentation; following the full game production pipeline via documentation.
10 Understand and employ the structure and work modes of game development teams; comprehend the responsibilities of team members and collaborations between them while utilizing this knowledge in practice.
11 Understand the process of game publishing within industry standards besides development and utilize this knowledge practice.
12 Pitching a video game to developers, publishers, and players; mastering the art of effectively communicating and marketing the features and commercial potential of new ideas, concepts or games.
