Course Objectives: Istanbul was for 1700 years “the Imperial Capital City” of two Empires-the East Rome Empire-Byzantine and then the Ottoman Empire. For centuries it was the most important Christian City in the world and then most important Muslim City. Today its monuments palaces, churches and mosques, historical neighborhood are among the most dramatic remnants of a city designed by nature to be an imperial city. The goal of the course are to deepen student understanding of cosmopolitan cultures in Istanbul, and to focus on the nature of Istanbul as a world city an “urban studies” aspect of world history.

•İstanbul’un Antik Yunan, Roma, Bizans ve Osmanlı dönemindeki görünümünü incelemek
•İstanbul’daki yapıları dönemlerine ve üsluplarına göre teşhis etmek
•İstanbul’daki günümüz mimari uygulamalarını eleştirmek
•Tarihe yönelik bir duyarlılık geliştirmek
