INDUSTRIAL DESIGN


Profile of the Program

The Bachelor of Industrial Design Program aims to provide academic education and practical knowledge that fulfills the level of professional qualifications in industrial design. Program covers full time attendance of four academic years and internships. The primary goal of the program is to equip students with the theoretical and practical experience, skills and techniques for design project development, documentation and administration of design process. A more general goal of the program is to provide students with proficiency of universal problem-solving approaches. In achieving these goals students will be exposed and will experience industrial design studios, design theory and process, technology of materials and manufacturing, marketing and design management, ergonomics, design history and visual communication of design through digital systems and manual methods.

Qualification Awarded

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Bachelor of Industrial Design

This is a Bachelor’s Degree (First Cycle) program.

Specific Admission Requirements

Student admission for this undergraduate program is made through university entrance examinations (YKS) prepared in the framework of the regulations set by Higher Education Council of Turkey (YÖK). International students are accepted to this undergraduate program according to the score of one of the international exams they take such as SAT,ACT etc. or according to their high school diploma score. Exchange student admission is made according to the requirements determined by bilateral agreements signed by BAU and the partner university. Visiting students can enroll for the courses offered in this program upon the confirmation of the related academic unit. Additionally, they need to prove their English language level since the medium of instruction at BAU is English.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to graduate from this undergraduate program, the students are required to succeed in all of the courses listed in the curriculum of the program by getting the grade of at least DD/S with a minimum of 240 ECTS, to have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.00, to complete their compulsory internship in a specified duration and quality.

Recognition of Prior Learning

At Bahcesehir University , full-time students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related by laws. If the content of the course previously taken in another institution is equivalent to the course offered at BAU, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the related faculty/graduate school after the evaluation of the course content.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Industrial design graduates in Turkey can work in sectors such as home appliances, automotive, electronics, furniture, and healthcare technologies, taking roles in product design, user experience, R&D, and production processes. They may also be employed in private design studios, public institutions, and academia. Additionally, they have opportunities in social design projects and entrepreneurial initiatives, developing their own products or services. With a combination of technical and creative skills, graduates are capable of managing the aesthetic, functional, and user-centered aspects of product development in a holistic manner.

Access to Further Studies

The students graduating from this program may apply to second cycle (Master's degree) programmes.

Program Outcomes

1 Having the theoretical and practical knowledge proficiency in the discipline of industrial product design 
2 Applying professional knowledge to the fields of product, service and experience design development
3 Understanding, using, interpreting and evaluating the design concepts, knowledge and language 
4 Knowing the research methods in the discipline of industrial product design, collecting information with these methods, interpreting and applying the collected knowledge
5 Identifying the problems of industrial product design, evaluating the conditions and requirements of problems, producing proposals of solutions to them
6 Developing the solutions with the consideration of social, cultural, environmental, economic and humanistic values; being sensitive to personal differences and ability levels 
7 Having the ability of communicating the knowledge about design concepts and solutions through written, oral and visual methods
8 To identify and apply the relation among material, form giving, detailing, maintenance and manufacturing methods of design solutions
9 Using the computer aided information and communication technologies for the expression of industrial product design solutions and applications
10 Having the knowledge and methods in disciplines like management, engineering, psychology, ergonomics, visual communication which support the solutions of industrial product design; having the ability of searching, acquiring and using the knowledge that belong these disciplines when necessary.
11 Using a foreign language to command the jargon of industrial product design and communicate with the colleagues from different cultures
12 Following and evaluating the new topics and trends that industrial product design needs to integrate according to technological and scientific developments
13 Planning, managing and executing the design process individually and as a team.
