Course Objectives: | In today’s world design discipline has a very complex structure covering broad range of product, service, process and experience. New technologies, new materials and different manufacturing processes lead to new approaches in design. Severe competition in business environment has also change the understanding of design. Design has become an important agent of the competition, leverage for business, society and economy and it is expected to contribute to the overall success of the business. In this interdisciplinary context designers are expected to work in teams of people and contribute various stages such as design, production, marketing, management of budget and recourses and etc. This course aims to provide skills and understanding to managing this complex structure of processes and procedures. |
The students who have succeeded in this course; 1- display different kinds of skills and techniques used in the managemental processes (projects, people, processes, strategies, etc.) of design. 2- demonstrate strategy building, product development, problem-solving and decision making capabilities 3- display critical, analytical, evaluative and reflective competencies 4- develop an understanding of using design for differentiation, innovation and value creation in business environment 5- exhibit team working skills 6- correlate the relationship between design and other organizational functions 7- Examine methods of project and asset management suitable for art & design projects 8- Evaluate the relationship between project management approach and workflow strategy 9- Employ a workflow management system for a chosen project, monitoring progress throughout 10- Critically analyse workflow and management strategies, identifying areas of good practice and areas for improvement. |
This course introduces management of design as a strategic resource and embodies topics such as the value of design, the relationship of design with different functions of companies, management of design projects, advocating design through design policies and its relationswith science and technology policies, emerging practices and approaches in design management. |
