MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNIQUES (TURKISH)


Profile of the Program

The aim of the medical laboratory techniques program is to educate laboratory technicians able to make medical analyses, which are assumed necessary by a physician, related to the patient’s situation in diagnosis and treatment laboratories. The graduates of this program have the ability to make hematologic, microbiologic and biochemical analyses by using laboratory equipments. The graduates are able to work in various health agencies, specific clinics and analysis laboratories, health institutes, food industry, research and development foundations in medical area.

Qualification Awarded

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNIQUES

Level of Qualification

This is a Associate (Short Cycle) program.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students are accepted with YKS (Higher Education Institutions Examination) made by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates who are high school graduates; According to the score they will get from the Basic Proficiency Test of the Higher Education Institutions Examination conducted by ÖSYM, they can be a student in the Programme if they make their preferences in accordance with the Preference Guide published by ÖSYM, provide the base score of the Programme to be determined for that year, are eligible to enroll in the Programme according to the ÖSYM Result Explanation System data and register between the specified dates.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

This program is subject to the fifth stage degree system of 120 ECTS credits in the field of Medical Laboratory Techniques in higher education. When the program is successfully completed and the program qualifications are met, an Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Techniques is awarded.

Recognition of Prior Learning

The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates of the Medical Laboratory Techniques program have the opportunity to work in health institutions, private clinics and analysis laboratories, research centers of health institutions, food industry enterprises, and institutions and organizations conducting research and development studies in the field of medicine.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates who successfully complete their associate degree education can vertically transfer to the universities' "Emergency Aid and Disaster Management, Biology, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Genetics and Bioengineering, Nursing, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Health Management" undergraduate programs, provided that they have sufficient points in the "Dikey Geçiş Sınavı (DGS)".

6 To be able to apply changing techniques and use new tools and devices depending on developing technology
7 To be able to update his/her knowledge, skills and competencies related to his/her field with the awareness of lifelong learning and improve himself/herself personally and professionally
8 To be able to perform basic tests related to different areas of the medical laboratory.
9 To be able to perform pre-analysis preparation processes, prepare tools and equipment, and apply disinfection and sterilization techniques
10 To be able to use medical laboratory equipment in accordance with their rules and techniques, and to ensure that they work in the most efficient way by performing their checks and maintenance.
