Profile of the Program

Purpose of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program The purpose of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program is to educate qualified Medical Laboratory Technicians who are capable of performing laboratory analyses in accordance with current scientific knowledge and professional standards; effectively using laboratory instruments and technologies; adhering to quality management and biosafety principles; demonstrating commitment to professional ethics; working effectively as members of multidisciplinary healthcare teams; and embracing lifelong learning in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment processes of healthcare services. Employment Opportunities for Graduates Graduates of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program may be employed in biochemistry, microbiology, hematology, molecular biology, pathology, and other medical laboratory units of public and private healthcare institutions; research laboratories; universities; and other organizations and institutions operating in the healthcare sector. Program Objectives 1. Perform effectively in medical laboratory practices. 2. Use laboratory equipment, instruments, and materials accurately, safely, and efficiently. 3. Conduct clinical biochemistry, microbiology, hematology, and related laboratory analyses in accordance with professional standards. 4. Apply quality management systems and biosafety principles throughout laboratory processes. 5. Accurately interpret, document, and report laboratory test results. 6. Demonstrate professional ethics and respect for patient rights, confidentiality, and privacy in all professional practices. 7. Communicate effectively within the healthcare team and collaborate successfully in multidisciplinary settings. 8. Develop scientific and analytical approaches to solving professional problems encountered in laboratory practice. 9. Keep up to date with current scientific advances and technological developments in the field of medical laboratory sciences. 10. Mission of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program; To educate qualified Medical Laboratory Technicians who are competent to contribute to the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment processes of healthcare services, perform laboratory procedures accurately and reliably, adhere to professional ethical principles, collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development. Qualification Awarded

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNIQUES

Level of Qualification

This is a Associate (Short Cycle) program.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students are accepted with YKS (Higher Education Institutions Examination) made by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates who are high school graduates; According to the score they will get from the Basic Proficiency Test of the Higher Education Institutions Examination conducted by ÖSYM, they can be a student in the Programme if they make their preferences in accordance with the Preference Guide published by ÖSYM, provide the base score of the Programme to be determined for that year, are eligible to enroll in the Programme according to the ÖSYM Result Explanation System data and register between the specified dates.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

This program is subject to the fifth stage degree system of 120 ECTS credits in the field of Medical Laboratory Techniques in higher education. When the program is successfully completed and the program qualifications are met, an Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Techniques is awarded.

Recognition of Prior Learning

The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program may be employed in biochemistry, microbiology, hematology, molecular biology, pathology, and other medical laboratory units of public and private healthcare institutions; research laboratories; universities; and other organizations and institutions operating in the healthcare sector.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates who successfully complete their associate degree education can vertically transfer to the universities` "Emergency Aid and Disaster Management, Biology, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Genetics and Bioengineering, Nursing, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Health Management" undergraduate programs, provided that they have sufficient points in the "Dikey Geçiş Sınavı (DGS)".

4 Effectively uses information and communication technologies (ICT), including relevant software and applications, in professional practice.
5 Evaluates professional problems and issues independently through analytical and critical thinking and proposes evidence-based solutions grounded in scientific principles.
6 Uses healthcare-specific terminology effectively and communicates professional knowledge clearly and effectively through written, verbal, and non-verbal communication.
7 Assumes responsibility as a member of a multidisciplinary team to resolve complex and unpredictable problems encountered in field-related professional practice.
8 Plans and manages career development and pursues continuous professional development through a commitment to lifelong learning.
9 Acts in accordance with ethical, scientific, cultural, and societal values during the collection, analysis, and reporting of field-related data.
10 Uses a foreign language to follow developments in the field and communicate effectively with professional colleagues.
11 Demonstrates knowledge of the medical laboratory environment and workflow and uses laboratory equipment and instruments in accordance with established procedures and techniques.
12 Performs fundamental laboratory tests in different disciplines of medical laboratory science and carries out specimen reception, preparation, analysis, and reporting procedures.
13 Applies laboratory hygiene, safety, waste management, and sterilization procedures, and monitors routine equipment inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure the efficient operation of laboratory instruments.
