GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING (TURKISH, THESIS)


Profile of the Program

The Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling has a thesis and a thesis alternative. The non-thesis program consists of 10 courses and 1 project course. Thesis program consists of 8 courses, seminars and thesis studies. Elective courses offer options for students to specialize in areas suitable for career planning in accordance with their desires. Each must course is only opened during the period. Elective courses vary according to semesters. Online elective course options are available on a semester basis. The duration of the Master's Program in Guidance and Counseling non-thesis is 3 semesters. The duration of the thesis program is between 4 and 6 semesters. Students who have not completed the program within the specified time will be dismissed from the University. Courses are typically delivered between 19:00 and 22:00 on weekdays at Beşiktaş Campus. There are weekly courses as many as the number of courses selected as of the semester.

Specific Admission Requirements

The first condition to be able to apply for this program is being a graduate of Psychological Counseling and Guidance or Psychology departments. In order for students to apply to a graduate program; If he/she has a bachelor's degree and is going to apply to a program with thesis, he/she must obtain at least 55 standard points in the academic personnel and graduate education entrance exam (ALES) conducted centrally by the Measurement Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) or ALES base score in the score type of the program applied. They must have obtained an equivalent base score from the GMAT or GRE exams determined by ALES is not required for Non-Thesis Programs. For English programs, it is necessary to get at least 65 points from one of the foreign language exams determined by the Interuniversity Board or to get the required score from the language exam to be held by the university. Foreign Language Exam (YDS): 65, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 79, BAU Language Proficiency Exam: 65, YÖKDİL: 65). NOTE: The above-mentioned score criteria are the minimum value for application and may vary in some programs.

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree in the field of Guidance and Psychological Counseling.

Recognition of Prior Learning

In this program, the recognition of previous learning is made according to the Bahçeşehir University Graduate Education Regulations.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Students who successfully complete their master's education in this program can work in different types of agencies and institutions. The majority of the graduates work in public and private schools as a school counselors. Moreover, graduates can find positions in family education centers, pscyhological counseling centers in the universities, family counseling institutions, and courthouses.

Access to Further Studies

Students who successfully complete their master's education in this program can study in doctoral programs in their field or related fields, provided that they get a valid grade from the ALES exam and have sufficient English language knowledge.
