Course Objectives:

The goal of this course is to unfold the layers of Berlin throughout the history giving special emphasis on its testimony of co-existence of opposing economical and political powers. Berlin having experienced all the potentials and traumas of being the edge/walled city for years has deeply influenced German culture. Hence the main intention of the course is to trace the thresholds and milestones in German Culture that Berlin played the leading role in terms of philosophy, literature, music, art and architecture.

Course Content:

Berlin having an idiosyncratic position among all European cities gives us a vast material to explore since it has been the melting point of opposing economical, political and visual cultures. This trans/inter disciplinary course provides a base to trace the transformations and translations in Berlin from diverse standpoints.
