Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to define the basic concepts of molecular biology and genetics and to provide a basis for understanding the importance of basic cellular mechanisms in medicine.
Course Content: 1) Cell organization, prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
2) Cell organelles
3) Cytoskeleton
4) Cell membrane and transport mechanisms
5) Signal transduction mechanisms
6) Extracellular matrix and adhesion molecules
7) Cell-cell junctions
8) Genetic material
9) DNA-RNA-protein
10) DNA damage and repair mechanisms
11) Introduction to genetics and mendelian interitance
12) Exceptions to classical mendelian inheritance
13) Common genetic diseases-1
14) Common genetic diseases-2

2) To have theoretic and practical knowledge for individual's, family's and the community's health promotion and protection.
3) To assess nutritional status of risky groups in nutrition related problems (pregnant, babies, adolescences, elders, etc.)
4) To use healthcare, information technologies for Nutrition and Dietetic practice and research.
5) To communicate effectively with advisee, colleagues for effective professional relationships.
6) To be able to monitor occupational information using at least one foreign language, to collaborate and communicate with colleagues at international level.
7) To use life-long learning, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
8) To act in accordance with ethical principles and values in professional practice.
