Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: Purpose of this course is providing information about upper and lower limb and spinal orthoses basic mechanics, principles and usage in rehabilitation.
Course Content: This course includes hand and foot arch and their special splinting, upper and lower extremity orthoses in different rheumatologic and neurologic diseases, orthoses of various tendon and plexus injuries, body orthoses used for spinal diseases, hip-knee-ankle-foot orthoses, computerized models in orthotics and splinting.

Week Subject Related Preparation
1) Orthotics, classification: aims and indications or prothesis and orthotics (supportive, functional, immobilizer, corrective), material technologies
2) Mechanical principle of orthotics, surface anatomy, plans and axises, localisations of mechanical joints
3) Lower extremity orthotics: Shoes, foot orthosis, AFO, PAFO, DAFO, Leafsprinf AFO (Dynamic AFO), Inhibition orthosis. Short leg orthosis, Long leg brace: parts, indication of different joints, mechanical principles
4) Orthopedic conditions: Orthosis of hip dislocation, club foot, genu varum, valgum, recurvatum, ; cervical collars and thoracic orthosis- corsets
5) Orthosis for Neurologic Conditions: CP, Spinal cord lesions, stroke, orthosis for neuromuscular diseases.
6) Practicum: Measurements by paper-pencil; P.O.P., innovations in measurement systems, 3D technologies in measurement and manufacturings
7) Midterm Exam
8) Amputation level, surgery techniques, stump types, upper and lower extremity prosthesis according to the amputation levels
9) Lower extremity prosthesis: transtibial and transfemoral prosthesis
10) Lower extremity prosthesis: Hip and knee disarticulation
11) Lower extremity prosthesis: hemipelvectomy prosthesis
12) Stump care and stump exercises
13) Amputee Rehabilitation
14) Practicum
