Level of Qualification

This is a Bachelor’s Degree (First Cycle) program.

Specific Admission Requirements

Student admission for this undergraduate program is made through university entrance examinations (YGS-LYS) prepared in the framework of the regulations set by Higher Education Council of Turkey (YÖK). Students may also be accepted through application to the ApplyBAU program. International students are accepted to this undergraduate program according to the score of one of the international exams they take such as SAT,ACT etc. or according to their high school diploma score. Exchange student admission is made according to the requirements determined by bilateral agreements signed by BAU and the partner university. Visiting students can enroll for the courses offered in this program upon the confirmation of the related academic unit. Additionally, they need to prove their English language level since the medium of instruction at BAU is English.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The acceptance of the students to the undergraduate programs is based on the university entrance exam. International students are admitted to the programs based on the criteria determined by the university (such as SAT, ACT scores, or high school GPA). The guest students can enroll in the courses offered by the departments upon approval of the relevant academic program. These students have to document their English proficiency since the education language is English at BAU.

Recognition of Prior Learning

At Bahcesehir University, full-time students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related by laws. If the content of the course previously taken in another institution is equivalent to the course offered at BAU, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the related faculty/graduate school after the evaluation of the course content.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates can work in industrial or public fields such as pharmacology, medicine, agriculture, environmental protection, biomedicine, biotechnology or as an academic researcher in universities.

Access to Further Studies

The students graduating from this program may apply to second cycle (Master's degree) programmes.

Program Outcomes

1 Utilize the wealth of information stored in computer databases to answer basic biological questions and solve problems such as diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
2 Acquire an ability to compile and analyze biological information, clearly present and discuss the conclusions, the inferred knowledge and the arguments behind them both in oral and written format.
3 Develop critical, creative and analytical thinking skills.
4 Develop effective communication skills and have competence in scientific speaking, reading and writing abilities in English and Turkish.
5 Gain knowledge of different techniques and methods used in genetics and acquire the relevant laboratory skills.
6 Detect biological problems, learn to make hypothesis and solve the hypothesis by using variety of experimental and observational methods.
7 Gain knowledge of methods for collecting quantitative and qualitative data and obtain the related skills.
8 Conduct research through paying attention to ethics, human values and rights. Pay special attention to confidentiality of information while working with human subjects.
9 Obtain basic concepts used in theory and practices of molecular biology and genetics and establish associations between them.
