Profile of the Program

Through the range of formative, practical, historical and theoretical courses, our graduates are encouraged to question, solve problems, imagine and innovate. Their knowledge of the range of practices involving cameras and images today enables them to position themselves in relation to the potentially shifting fields of visual arts and communication.

Qualification Awarded

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Arts

Level of Qualification

This is a Bachelor’s Degree (First Cycle) program.

Specific Admission Requirements

Student admission for this undergraduate program is made through an aptitude test. The students that receive 140 from the university entrance examinations (YGS-LYS) prepared in the framework of the regulations set by Higher Education Council of Turkey (YÖK) can apply for taking the test. The aptitude test entails two parts: execution and interview. International students are accepted to this undergraduate program according to the score of one of the international exams they take such as SAT,ACT etc. or according to their high school diploma score. Exchange student admission is made according to the requirements determined by bilateral agreements signed by BAU and the partner university. Visiting students can enroll for the courses offered in this program upon the confirmation of the related academic unit. Additionally, they need to prove their English language level since the medium of instruction at BAU is English.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The students studying in this undergraduate program are required to have a Cumulative Grade Points Average (Cum.GPA) of not less than 2.00/4.00 and have completed all the courses with at least a letter grade of D/S in the program in order to graduate. The minimum number of ECTS credits required for graduation is 240. It is also mandatory for the students to complete their compulsory internship 30 work days of duration and at the corporations approved by the department.

Recognition of Prior Learning

At Bahcesehir University, full-time students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related regulations. If the content of the course previously taken in another institution is equivalent to the course offered at BAU, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the related faculty/graduate school after the evaluation of the course content.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

The program aims to educate dynamic professionals equipped with the most current information, solid basic knowledge about art and technology and who will serve and shape the future of the field of communication. Our students are educated to be the image professionals of the field in subjects such as aesthetics and digital communication by taking image and studio courses from the specialists and premier practitioners of the field.

Access to Further Studies

The students graduating from this program may apply to second cycle (Master's degree) programmes.

1 Knowledge of photographic and video media and ability to use basic, intermediate and advanced techniques of these media.
2 Ability to understand, analyze and evaluate theories, concepts and uses of photography and video.
3 Ability to employ theoretical knowledge in the areas of the use of photography and video.
4 Familiarity with and ability to review the historical literature in theoretical and practical studies in photography and video.
5 Ability in problem solving in relation to projects in photography and video.
6 Ability to generate innovative responses to particular and novel requirements in photography and video.
7 Understanding and appreciation of the roles and potentials of the image across visual culture
8 Ability to communicate distinctively by means of photographic and video images.
9 Experience of image post-production processes and ability to develop creative outcomes through this knowledge.
10 Knowledge of and ability to participate in the processes of production, distribution and use of photography and video in the media.
11 Ability to understand, analyze and evaluate global, regional and local problematics in visual culture.
12 Knowledge of and ability to make a significant contribution to the goals of public communication.
13 Enhancing creativity via interdisciplinary methods to develop skills for realizing projects.
14 Gaining general knowledge about the points of intersection of communication, art and technology.
