Course Objectives: An increasing number of problems that we face today are too complex to be addressed by isolated discipline. This course focuses on developing design solutions that transcend the boundaries of any single design discipline. Students coming from different design disciplines and backgrounds work collaboratively to develop complex interdisciplinary design projects. The projects are developed around the topic of designing experiences. Students apply their disciplinary knowledge, acquire new knowledge from students coming from other disciplines, pursuit interdisciplinary approach and practice working in interdisciplinary teams in the process of designing pleasant user experiences.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
Practice working as interdisciplinary teams.
Gain experience in applying disciplinary knowledge in interdisciplinary teams.
Expand their design understanding with the knowledge exchange with teammates from other design disciplines.
Develop innovative design solutions that integrate design knowledge from multiple design disciplines.
Explore design problems from different perspectives and appreciate the value of input from professionals coming from different disciplines and backgrounds.
Develop proficiency in intellectual pursuit of experiential design solutions through theoretical, conceptual, methodological, and practical knowledge.

Course Content

This is a practice-based studio course. Taking critiques from lecturers, and joining discussions are compulsory and part of the studio activities.
This class meets once a week for four hours over a 6-week period. One week of FHS Winter School will be counted as 8 weeks of contact hours of the course that corresponds the rest of the semester. The class is conducted as an advanced design studio in which students are expected to work in class and participate in formal and informal discussions on relevant topics. Teamwork lies at the very core of this course. Team members also need to meet outside class time, conduct research, engage in ideation sessions, develop design solutions and finalize projects.
Teaching methods and techniques used in the course are: project, collaborative learning, guest speaker, lecture, differentiation, experiment, implementation, discussion, field trip, individual study, social activity
