ECTS Credit Allocation

ECTS is a learner-centered system based on the workload of a student required to achieve the program outcomes specified within the framework of National Qualifications for Higher Education in Turkey (NQF-HETR).

ECTS credit allocation system at BAU is achieved on the basis of course descriptions containing ‘learning outcomes’ (i.e. what students are expected to be able to) and workload (theory, practice, individual studies, homeworks, presentations, exams, etc.) of students, in other words, the time students typically need to achieve these learning outcomes. Each learning outcome is expressed in terms of credits, with the workload of an avarage full-time student as 30 credits for one semester and 60 credits for an academic year. One academic year comprises 16 weeks in one semester (14 weeks contact hours, 2 weeks exams) 1 500 hours for an academic year, 60 Credits for and one credit corresponds to 25 hours of work.

ECTS is the credit system for higher education used in the European Higher Education Area, involving all countries engaged in the Bologna Process. It is initially designed to facilitate the transfer of credits in the recognition of the periods of study abroad in partner universities.
