Course Objectives: | This course is designed to prepare future teachers to integrate computer technology and other media into their English language teaching. It covers the analysis, evaluation, selection and production of materials as well as the theory and practice of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL). |
The students who have succeeded in this course; By the end of the course, students will be able to: 1. Explain the characteristics of the instructional design process and instructional technologies 2. Understand the theoretical approaches related to instructional technologies 3. Understand the role of information technologies in instructional design 4. Write learning objectives 5. Define categories of instructional materials 6. Select appropriate teaching methods and media 7. Acquire principles of materials design 8. Develop instructional materials (visual, audio, video, Web 2.0 and Generative AI) to teach language skills (reading, listening, speaking, writing) 9. Evaluate the effectiveness of the materials 10. Define multimodal literacies and acquire visual, audio and cyberlearning literacies 11. Develop an awareness of ethical issues in the design of educational materials |
Topics covered in the course include the 21st century learner, new skills and learning environments, technology-assisted language learning, instructional analysis, instructional objectives and goal analysis, needs analysis, planning and assessment, principles of materials design and development, principles of multimedia design, methods of materials development, materials development in context, development of visual, audio and audiovisual materials developed with GAİ tools.
