• Overview of recent developments regarding the behavior of natural soil deposits

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
-To learn about types and purposes of using different foundation systems for structures.
-To provide students with exposure to the systematic methods for designing foundations.
To discuss and evaluate the feasibility of foundation solutions to different types of soil conditions considering the time effect on soil behavior.

Course Content

Application of soil mechanics to design of foundations.
Methods for site classification and soil exploration.
Allowable bearing capacity and settlements for shallow and deep foundations. Design of earth retaining structures.
