| Course Objectives: | The Emergency Medical Services course aims to provide students with knowledge of the regulations and legislation governing emergency medical services, the structure and operation of emergency departments, types of ambulances, disasters, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) incidents and injuries, triage principles, and the command and control center and emergency communication network. |

The students who have succeeded in this course; 1) Evaluates Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and understands the operation and legislation governing ambulances and emergency medical vehicles. 2) Identifies the types and equipment of ambulances used in Türkiye and explains the structure and operation of emergency departments. 3) Defines the roles, responsibilities, authorities, and ethical principles of paramedics. 4) Understands the use of documentation and reporting forms in Emergency Medical Services in Türkiye. 5) Ensures personal safety as well as the safety of patients and injured individuals. 6) Demonstrates effective communication within ambulance services and Emergency Medical Services. 7) Demonstrates knowledge and skills for protection against biological, physical, and chemical hazards encountered while ensuring scene safety. 8) Applies triage at the scene using the START and JumpSTART triage systems. 9) Understands the principles of protection and emergency response in Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) incidents and injuries. 10) Understands disasters and the principles of emergency preparedness and protection during disasters. 11) Demonstrates effective decision-making, responsibility, and communication skills in emergency situations. |
| This course covers the roles, responsibilities, authority, and ethical principles of paramedics; the legislation, regulations, structure, and operation of emergency departments and prehospital emergency medical services; ambulance types, equipment, and operational procedures; triage using the START and JumpSTART methods; the principles of protection and response in Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) incidents; documentation used in emergency medical services; communication between the Command and Control Center (CCC) and ambulance stations; disasters and the principles of emergency preparedness and protection; and the roles of search and rescue organizations (e.g., AFAD and UMKE). These topics are delivered using a variety of teaching methods. |
