Recommended Optional Program Components: | Recommended optional components for the Film and Fashion course include workshops on costume design, focusing on how to create visually compelling looks that enhance character development and storytelling. Collaborations with fashion design or textile departments can provide hands-on experience in designing and sourcing costumes for film projects. Elective courses such as fashion history, visual storytelling, and color theory offer deeper insights into the interplay between fashion and cinema. Guest lectures by costume designers, stylists, and filmmakers provide professional perspectives on industry practices. Screenings of iconic films with notable costume design, followed by discussions, inspire students and help them analyze the cultural and narrative impact of fashion in film. |
Course Objectives: | The course, offers an interdisciplinary introduction to the field of study of fashion and film. From a historical and theoretical perspective are analyzed aspects of fashion and consumption, as marketing and trends, in relation to film. |
The students who have succeeded in this course; 1. students will be able to understand the relationship between the fashion phenomenon and the film industry in general. 2 students will be able to understand the meaning created by costumes and their importance in film narrative in general terms. 3 students will be able to have a general knowledge about fashion theories. 4 students will be able to have a general knowledge about the history of cinema. 5 students will be able to anticipate how fashion trends and fashions influence both everyday life and audiovisual narratives and vice versa |
The course examines mediated fashion within the context of modernity, the emergence of cinema, Hollywood's global dominance, genre film, and pop culture. Instruction is delivered through lectures by experts from the Turkish fashion and cinema industries, while student performance is evaluated based on class participation, written assignments, and final projects. |
