FILM AND TELEVISION


Profile of the Program

Film and Television Department offers its students a comprehensive education program that incorporates the theoretical and practical knowledge required in professional and academic career. Our department aims to provide the students the theoretical background, culture, education and skills for creating and analyzing fiction and non-fiction audio-visual products which can be featured in cinema, television, radio and new media.

Qualification Awarded

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Film and Television

Level of Qualification

This is a Bachelor’s Degree (First Cycle) program.

Specific Admission Requirements

Student placement for this undergraduate program is made through centralized national university placement examinations (YGS-LYS) by Higher Education Council of Turkey (YÖK). Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) is responsible to place students according to their ÖSYS scores. International students are accepted to this undergraduate program according to the score of one of the international exams they take such as SAT,ACT etc. or according to their high school diploma score. Exchange student admission is made according to the requirements determined by bilateral agreements signed by BAU and the partner university. Visiting students can enroll for the courses offered in this program upon the confirmation of the related academic unit. Additionally, they need to prove their English language level since the language of instruction at BAU is English.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in Film and Television Department is awarded to students who have scored a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of not less than 2.00/4.00 and have completed all the courses (240 ECTS) in the program with at least a letter grade of D or S. It is also mandatory for the students to complete 30 workdays of compulsory internship in the specified quality.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Bahçeşehir University recognizes the previously taken courses in another institution and exempt them from graduation credit with the approval of the related faculty and department, as long as the courses match with the learning outcomes of the registered program at our university.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Film and Television Department aims to raise professionals to meet the needs of film and media industries.Our graduates work in various business branches of the cinema and television sector, in positions such as directors of photography, scenarists, editors, television programmers, screenwriters, movie producers and advertising directors.

Access to Further Studies

The students graduating from Film and Television Department may apply to second cycle (Master's degree) programs.

Program Outcomes

1 Being familiar to the main concepts and methods of the social sciences and the fine arts devoted to understanding the world and the society
2 Having comprehensive knowledge regarding different media and branches of art
3 Knowing the historical background of audio-visual moving images in the world and in Turkey and keeping pace with the new developments in the area
4 Having a good command of the language and the aesthetics of audio-visual moving images in the world and in Turkey
5 Being able to create a narrative that could be used in a fiction or a non-fiction audio-visual moving image product
6 Being able to write a script ready to be shot
7 Having the skills to produce the photoboard of a script in hand and to shoot the film using the camera, the lights and other necessary equipment
8 Being able to transfer the footage of a film to the digital medium, to edit and do other post-production operations
9 Being able to create a documentary audio visual moving image from the preliminary sketch stage to shooting, editing and post-production stages
10 Being able to produce an audio visual moving image for television and audio products for radio from preliminary stages through shooting and editing to the post-production stage
11 Being culturally and theoretically equipped to make sense of an audio-visual moving image, to approach it critically with regard to its language and narration and being able to express his/her approach in black and white
12 Having ethical values and a sense of social responsibility
