Profile of the Program

The program aims for its graduates to (1) be able to interpret political, economic, and social developments around the world from a risk–opportunity perspective and develop projects and policies in various institutions and organizations; (2) possess the knowledge and competencies required to work in the public and private sectors, non-governmental organizations, and international organizations; (3) demonstrate responsibility and sensitivity toward the environment and society in project and policy-making processes; and (4) sustain their personal and professional development throughout their lives. Course Classification: Core Courses (76 ECTS): POL1351 Introduction to Political Science, POL1412 Introduction to International Relations, ECO1211-1212 Introduction to Economics I-II, ECO1161-1162 Mathematics for Social Sciences I-II, LAW1001-1002 Foundations of Law I-II, POL2353 Introduction to Politics and Society, POL2348 Statistics for Social Sciences. Specialization Courses (112 ECTS): EUR2061 International Law, POL2352 Introduction to Comparative Politics, POL3315-3316 Political Thought I-II, POL3351 Turkish Politics, POL3415 History of Diplomacy, POL3232 Research Methods, POL4410 International Relations Theories, POL4418 International Organizations, POL4311 Political Ideologies, POL4401 International Political Economy, POL3413 Turkish Foreign Policy; plus 8 elective slots (40 ECTS). Complementary Courses (52 ECTS): ENG1003-1004 Communication Skills and Academic Reporting I-II, TLL1003-1004 Turkish Language and Literature I-II, HST1001-1002 Atatürk`s Principles and History of Turkish Revolution I-II, LAW1156 Children`s Law and Child Psychology; plus electives (36 ECTS). Program-Specific Criteria: Political Science: (PS-1) Understand and know the fundamental theories, concepts, and theoretical frameworks of political science. (PS-2) Analyze current social and political events; comparatively evaluate different political systems. (PS-3) Understand how political science interacts with economics, diplomacy, public administration, and sociology; use this knowledge through an interdisciplinary approach. (PS-4) Core courses: history of political thought, political systems, political economy, constitutional law, fiscal policy, local government, administrative law, Turkish economy, EU relations. International Relations: (IR-1) Understand the fundamental concepts, theories, and principles of international relations. (IR-2) Understand the dynamics of interstate relations, balance of power, diplomatic relations, and how international policies are shaped. (IR-3) Explain the causes of current issues in international relations; analyze the globalizing world and effects on foreign policy and interstate relations; interpret the relationship between economics, politics, and diplomacy. (IR-4) Core courses: world history, history of political thought, political systems, political economy, law of nations, foreign policy, international diplomacy, EU relations.
