POLITICAL SCIENCE AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS


Profile of the Program

In order to comprehend a globally interconnected world, and to succeed in it, a high quality education in political science and international relations is an excellent point of departure. The mission of the Department is to provide students with such an education. The aim is to facilitate independent and critical thinking necessary for leadership and to equip students with strategic skills that will enable to take advantage of opportunities in the world of politics, business, media and international organizations.

Qualification Awarded

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Arts

Level of Qualification

This is a Bachelor’s Degree (First Cycle) program.

Specific Admission Requirements

Student admission for this undergraduate program is made through university entrance examinations prepared in the framework of the regulations set by Higher Education Council of Turkey (YÖK). International students are accepted to this undergraduate program according to the score of one of the international exams they take such as SAT,ACT etc. or according to their high school diploma score. Exchange student admission is made according to the requirements determined by bilateral agreements signed by BAU and the partner university. Visiting students can enroll for the courses offered in this program upon the confirmation of the related academic unit. Additionally, they need to prove their English language level since the medium of instruction atBAU is English.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The students studying in this undergraduate program are required to have a Cumulative Grade Points Avarage (Cum. GPA) of not less than 2.00/4.00 and no failing grades in order to graduate. The minimum number of ECTS credits required for graduation is 240.

Recognition of Prior Learning

At Bahcesehir University , full-time students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related by laws. If the content of the course previously taken in another institution is equivalent to the course offered at BAU, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the related faculty/graduate school after the evaluation of the course content.

Access to Further Studies

The students graduating from this program may apply to second cycle (Master's degree) programmes.

Program Outcomes

1 Grasp basic theoretical and conceptual knowledge about the field and relations between them at the level of practice.
2 Possess basic knowledge about the causes and effects of political transformations in societies.
3 Possess knowledge about quantitative, qualitative and mixed research methods in social and behavioral sciences.
4 Recognize historical patterns while evaluating contemporary political and social developments.
5 Demonstrate interdisciplinary and critical approach while analyzing, synthesizing and forecasting domestic and foreign policy.
6 Conduct studies in the field professionally, both independently or as a team member.
7 Possess consciousness about lifelong learning based on Research & Development.
8 Communicate with peers both orally and in writing, by using a foreign language at least at a level of European Language Portfolio B1 General Level and the necessary informatics and communication technologies.
9 Apply field-related knowledge and competences into career advancement, projects for sustainable development goals, and social responsibility initiatives.
10 Possess the habit to monitor domestic and foreign policy agenda as well as international developments.
11 Possess competence to interpret the new political actors, theories and concepts in a global era.
12 Evaluate the legal and ethical implications of advanced technologies on politics.
