Course Objectives: This course aims to teach students how to read academic papers, think critically on them and replicate basic results of these papers. This course covers fundamental knowledge and tools from statistics and econometrics in an attempt to facilitate students in critically evaluating academic papers. Students will also learn the processes of finding their own research questions, analysing their questions and presenting their projects in a hands-on manner.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Read and evaluate academic papers critically;
2) Replicate the results of academic papers using pen-paper and softwares;
3) Use applied tools to interpret data; describe data using numerical statistics; visualize the data using graphs; evaluate the relationship between variables using emprical tools and test their significance;
4) Download data from databanks and managing them;
5) Present their projects.

Course Content

This course covers the discussion of empirical academic articles that students might be interested in; includes developing students' presentation skills by finding their own research questions and seeking answers to research questions with statistical and empirical methods.
