Course Objectives: The course "Voice Disorders: Assessment and Therapy" aims to understand the physiological, psychological, and acoustic components of the voice, as well as to learn the methods used in the evaluation and treatment of voice disorders.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
- Gaining detailed knowledge of the anatomical structures and physiological processes involved in voice production.
- Acquiring the ability to identify, classify, and differentiate organic, functional, and neurogenic voice disorders.
- Effectively utilizing tools and methods used in the assessment of voice disorders (e.g., acoustic analysis, laryngoscopy, voice analysis software).
- Learning therapy techniques used in the treatment of voice disorders and applying them specifically to individual needs.
- Developing and implementing personalized therapy plans based on the evaluation results for individuals with voice disorders.
- Learning to collaborate with other disciplines involved in the diagnosis and treatment of voice disorders and reflecting this approach in clinical practices.
- Developing the ability to follow, evaluate, and apply evidence-based practices and current research in the field of voice disorders.
- Providing necessary information to individuals with voice disorders and their families, effectively managing the process, and adopting a professional approach.

Course Content

Week 1: Anatomy and Physiology of Voice
- Anatomical structures involved in voice production (larynx, vocal cords, respiratory tract).
- Voice production mechanism (phonation, resonance, articulation).
- Physiological functioning of normal voice.
Week 2: Acoustic Properties and Evaluation of Voice
- Frequency, intensity, and spectral characteristics of the voice.
- Acoustic analysis tools and basic concepts.
- Voice measurement methods and basic applications.
Week 3: Introduction to Voice Disorders
- Definition and classification of voice disorders.
- General characteristics of organic, functional, and neurogenic voice disorders.
- Symptoms and causes of voice disorders.
Week 4: Organic Voice Disorders
- Organic disorders such as nodules, polyps, cysts, laryngeal cancer.
- Evaluation and treatment of organic voice disorders.
Week 5: Functional Voice Disorders
- Functional aphonia, hypofunction, and hyperfunction.
- Causes and treatment approaches for functional voice disorders.
Week 6: Neurogenic Voice Disorders
- Neurogenic disorders such as Parkinson's disease, paralysis, spasmodic dysphonia, tremor.
- Diagnosis and treatment methods for neurogenic voice disorders.
Week 7: Evaluation of Voice Disorders I
- Subjective evaluation methods (VHI, GRBAS scales).
- Evaluation using laryngoscopy and endoscopy.
- Use of acoustic analysis programs.
Week 8: Evaluation of Voice Disorders II
- Phonation and respiratory tests.
- Recording and reporting methods.
- Evaluation exercises through case studies.
Week 9: Introduction to Voice Therapy
- What is voice therapy?
- General approaches and goals of voice therapy.
- Importance of voice hygiene education and lifestyle changes.
