Course Objectives: This class aims to introduce students critical concepts related to film and television criticism. Starting with a history of narrative forms and film genres, we will watch and discuss various films not only from cinema but also from contemporary televisual media.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1.Will be able to know on history of cinema.
2.Will be able to identify narrative elements of cinema
3.Will be able to discuss and determine genre conventions
4. Will be able to analyze and criticize films and television series with renown methods
5. Will be able to discuss contemporary forms of storytelling on quality television

Course Content

This class mainly focuses on basic concepts related to film criticism. Students are expected to watch important films that might be fruitful for discussions on film movements, independent cinema, third- cinema, feminist theories, art-house filmmaking and contemporary aesthetics on television screen.
