Course Objectives: The aim of this course is that teacher candidates are able to know theories and practices underlying child mental health and to transfer their knowledge to the children and families in educational settings.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1. know childhood mental developmental characteristics,
2. recognize childhood mental and behavioral disorders
3. know the causes of mental and behavioral disorders in childhood
4. know the correct approaches to childhood mental and behavioral disorders
5. guide families in reaching field experts against psychological and behavioral disorders.

Course Content

Definition of mental health, historical development of mental health care, theories of mental health, properties of people who are and are not mentally sick; behavioral, emotional problems and adaptation disorders in children; effect of family dynamics on child mental health.
