Course Objectives: The aim of the Parenteral Applications course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills required for the assessment of vital signs, sterilization and disinfection procedures, and the principles of asepsis. The course covers medication administration techniques, intravenous access and blood sampling procedures in accordance with aseptic techniques, precautions to be considered during blood product transfusions and possible complications, as well as the application principles and safety considerations of various parenteral procedures.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Assesses vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, body temperature, SpO₂, monitoring, etc.).
2) Understands medication administration routes (SC, IM, IV, etc.).
3) Understands the concepts and principles of sterilization, disinfection, and asepsis.
4) Understands enteral and parenteral nutrition methods in patients.
5) Understands nasogastric tube insertion and aspiration procedures in patients.
6) Understands blood sampling and intravenous (IV) cannulation procedures.
7) Performs various parenteral procedures safely and in accordance with clinical protocols.
8) Understands medical waste management and principles of environmental health protection.
9) Understands blood product transfusion procedures and possible complications.
10) Understands oxygen therapy methods

Course Content

The course covers the assessment of vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, body temperature, SpO₂, and monitoring), local and systemic medication administration routes, the concepts and principles of sterilization, disinfection, and asepsis, enteral and parenteral nutrition, nasogastric tube procedures, aspiration procedures, blood sampling, and intravenous (IV) cannulation. These procedures are taught through practical applications supported by video demonstrations and verbal explanations in accordance with aseptic techniques. Blood product transfusion procedures, possible complications, and oxygen therapy methods are also covered.
