Course Objectives: | This course explores implicit and explicit connections between contemporary architectural paradigms fostering debates on theoretical positions that shaped today’s architectural approaches and practices. The reciprocal influence of architectural theories/discourses and contemporary critical theory on each other are the main focus of the course. It includes reading of distinct theoretical and critical texts to enact inter/trans disciplinary connections between various disciplines and architecture to develop students’ critical insights. |

To critically evaluate and make judgements on architectural works IV. To relate historical and theoretical framework with architectural works V. To produce criticals texts upon built environment and architectural discourses |
The course is taught in a lecture and seminar format. The thematic reading list assigned for the week is to be read before the class and all class members are expected to attend and take part in the discussion sessions. Following a brief introduction by the instructor about the theme of the week, there will be seminar sessions. Themes: the concept and meaning of criticism, critical theory, postmodernism and architectural reponses to the crisis within modernism, critical contextualism, urban theory, utopian Project, phenomenology of place, tectonic expression, semiotics and structuralism, post-structuralism, feminist perpectives, queer theory |
