Course Objectives: | To introduce students the main concepts of operations research by modeling real-world problems and solving them with computational techniques. Students are expected to achieve the following objectives. Understand common and important business problems Develop the skills to model a problem as a linear programming problem Learn problem solution techniques such as graphical solution approach and simplex algorithm Model transportation problems and solve them using specialized optimization algorithms Learn how to make business decisions from the point of view of optimization |
The students who have succeeded in this course; Define and explain the concepts of operations research by modeling business problems as Linear Programming (LP) problems Explain the mathematical analysis of the theory of LPs Solve LPs by Simplex method Understand the logic behind the steps in the Simplex method Solve LPs using solver (software) and conduct sensitivity analysis Formulate and solve the transportation and assignment problems Built integer programming models Built Goal programming models |
