Course Objectives: • provide students with the language tools necessary to communicate both orally and in writing at an elementary level in Russian
• develop students’ confidence and ability to communicate in a new language and maintain their interest by providing varied, engaging and interactive activities
• get students to experience the Russian culture through songs, and selected episodes from films and cartoons
• increase students’ awareness of the global workplace through the introduction of a new culture

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1. RUSSIAN You will be able to introduce yourself and your family.
2. You will learn BASIC RUSSIAN grammar rules.
3. You will learn Russian words, verbs and pronouns.
4. You will learn the correct pronunciation rules and emphasis.
5. You will learn Russian greetings, introductions, farewells and basic question patterns.
6. You will be able to distinguish between masculine, feminine and neuter in Russian.
7. You will be able to make plurals in Russian.
8. We will analyze the grammar rules we have learned in the text and in short videos.
9. You will gain Russian reading, listening, speaking and writing skills.
10. We will watch Russian content (songs, short videos, etc.) and talk about the videos we watch. Language develops as we speak.
11. You will gain dictation skills.
12. Your Russian vocabulary will increase and you will have laid a good foundation.

Course Content

Topics will take into account the requirements of the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL Elementary level) for beginners in Russian and also the recommendations and guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Various types of authentic materials will be used along with the main textbook to achieve the course aims. Cultural material and activities will expose students to various aspects of Russian life as well as motivate them and facilitate their progress in learning the language.
Teaching methods and techniques used in the course are: lecture, practice, individual work, group work, technology-supported learning and use of digital resources.
