Course Objectives: This course aims to examine the concept of gender and feminist legal theory from a public law perspective. It analyzes the interaction between gender roles and law; how law shapes, multiplies, or remedies gender inequalities. Within this framework, the course focuses on the fundamental approaches, critical methods, and theoretical contributions of feminist legal theory. Students are expected to evaluate gender-based legal discussions within a conceptual, historical, and critical framework.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
1. Define the basic concepts and theoretical frameworks of gender and feminist legal theory,
2. Analyze the interaction between gender roles and law in historical, sociological, and legal dimensions,
3. Examine different feminist legal theories, their critical approaches, and contributions to legal change,
4. Identify gender-specific issues in public law (constitutional law, administrative law, human rights law, etc.) and develop solutions for these issues,
5. Gain awareness on gender identity, sexual orientation, and gender-based discrimination issues, and critically evaluate relevant legal regulations.

Course Content

This course examines feminist legal theories from a public law perspective. It analyzes how law shapes and transforms gender inequalities within the framework of liberal, radical, socialist, cultural, intersectional, postmodern, queer, and postcolonial feminist approaches. Students have the opportunity to evaluate the relationship between gender and law in historical, theoretical, and practical dimensions in light of feminist epistemology and methodology.
