Course Objectives: The objective of the **Practicum in Cinema** course is to provide students with a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience that covers both the technical and creative aspects of filmmaking. Students will learn the complete film production process, from pre-production through to post-production, gaining practical experience in areas such as script development, budgeting, location scouting, camera operation, lighting, sound design, editing, and finalizing the film. The course will also focus on the creative side of filmmaking, helping students develop their directorial vision, work with actors, and understand cinematography and production design. Students will work collaboratively in film crews, learning to manage a film set, communicate effectively with team members, and solve problems under real-world production conditions. In addition to technical skills, the course will emphasize professional practices, film industry standards, and ethics in filmmaking. By the end of the course, students will have the opportunity to create and complete a short film, applying the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout the program.

Cultivate a unique directorial style, guiding actors and crew to execute a film's artistic and narrative goals. Apply cinematic techniques in framing, composition, and visual storytelling.

4. Collaborate Effectively in a Film Production Team:
Work collaboratively with team members in various film production roles, understanding the responsibilities of each position and contributing to the successful completion of a film.

5. Produce and Edit a Short Film:
Plan, shoot, and edit a short film, integrating the technical, creative, and logistical aspects of filmmaking while meeting deadlines and adhering to professional standards.

6. Apply Film Industry Standards and Professional Practices:
Understand and adhere to industry best practices, film set etiquette, and ethical standards throughout the production process, ensuring a professional approach to filmmaking.

7. Critically Analyze and Review Films:
Analyze and critique films, including student projects, identifying strengths and areas for improvement in both technical execution and creative vision.

8. Handle Real-World Production Challenges:
Address common challenges faced in film production, such as time management, problem-solving under pressure, and adapting to changing circumstances on set.

9. Prepare for Film Distribution and Exhibition:
Understand the basics of preparing a film for distribution, including festival submission processes and creating promotional materials.

Course Content

The **Practicum in Cinema** course covers the entire film production process, from pre-production to post-production. Students will start by learning the fundamentals of script development, budgeting, location scouting, and scheduling. They will then gain hands-on experience in the technical aspects of filmmaking, including camera operation, lighting, sound recording, and editing, using industry-standard tools and techniques. The course will also focus on the creative aspects, helping students develop a directorial vision, work with actors, and understand cinematography and production design. Students will collaborate in film production teams, applying their knowledge to produce a short film, while learning how to manage a set, solve problems, and adapt to real-world production challenges. The post-production phase will involve editing, sound design, and finalizing the project for distribution, including preparing the film for festivals. Throughout the course, students will engage in critical analysis of films, including their own projects, and receive feedback on both technical and creative elements. They will also be introduced to industry standards and professional practices, ensuring that they are prepared for careers in the film industry.

5) Cinema and architecture. Sample film screening and discussion
6) The function of decor and costume in a film

8) Examining the decor-costume and budget list for the film watched on the 7th week.
9) Decor-costume list will be made in class for the film watched on the 7th week
10) Conversation with the director and the director of photography of the film screened on the 7th week
11) What is dramaturgy?
12) The importance of dramaturgy in art directing
13) Film screening
14) Discussion on the practice of art directing; determination of decor, costumes and accessories. Film and photo shooting practice
