Profile of the Program

Cinema - Television Master's Programme has a curriculum that is based on the study and research of cinema and television media with an interdisciplinary perspective that includes cooperation between cultural, sociological, psychological, historical, political, and linguistic approaches and also provides a basis for the production of products in these media. The programme deals with the link between mass media products and the "audience", the concepts of "performance and spectacle", and examines different filmographies in the light of the social reflections of cinema. For this purpose, the programme offers students a wide variety of elective courses.

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of sinema ve televizyon yüksek lisans

Specific Admission Requirements

In order to apply for a master's program, candidates must have a bachelor's degree and meet other basic program-specific requirements to be determined by the Institute Board. In addition, students applying to thesis programs must have an ALES score of no less than 55 points, as determined by the Institute Board in the score type they are applying for. The foreign language proficiency levels of candidates applying to master's programs conducted in a foreign language are determined according to the results of central foreign language exams accepted by YÖK, international foreign language exams accepted as equivalent by YÖK or ÖSYM, or the University English Proficiency Exam.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students who have completed the master's programme with thesis in Cinema and Television can apply to a doctoral programme of their choice. In addition, students who complete the 4-semester master's programme will also gain the practice of producing a fiction or documentary short film.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students who will continue their education at Bahçeşehir University may be exempted from the courses they took at their previous educational institution within the framework of certain regulations. If the content of the course taken is compatible with the content of the course given at BAU and is approved by the institute directorate, the student may be exempted from this course.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates can apply to a doctoral programme of their choice. In addition, graduates will have the ability to make a fiction or documentary short film.

Students who graduate from this program can apply to study in doctoral programs.

Program Outcomes

1 Students will develop a strong foundation in film theory and criticism, enabling them to engage in academic discussions on cinematic aesthetics and narrative structures. They will learn to apply critical methodologies to analyze films from various historical and cultural contexts.
2 Students will gain a broad knowledge of the historical and sociological contexts of global cinema television productions by studying important films from the history of cinema and gain ideas for creating their own works. Students will master the methods of fiction or documentary storytelling through courses based on screenwriting, cinematography and lighting, directing, post-production.
3 Students will explore the relationship between cinema and reality by studying documentary filmmaking and its ethical, political, and aesthetic implications. They will gain hands-on experience in documentary production, learning to craft compelling visual narratives based on real-world subjects.
4 Students will enhance their ability to communicate through visual storytelling by studying cinematic language, composition, and mise-en-scène. They will analyze and create scenes using different cinematic techniques to convey emotions and meaning effectively.
5 Students will refine their screenwriting skills by mastering narrative structure, character development, and dialogue. They will write and workshop original scripts, preparing them for professional careers in film and television writing.
6 Students will gain expertise in directing techniques, working with actors, and visual composition to create engaging cinematic experiences. They will direct short projects that demonstrate their ability to translate written narratives into compelling visual storytelling.
7 Students will gain insight into the global film industry, including production, distribution, and marketing strategies. They will develop professional skills necessary to navigate the industry, from pitching projects to networking with industry professionals.
8 Students will explore the historical evolution of Turkish cinema, from early productions to contemporary trends, analyzing key directors, genres, and movements. They will also examine the production models in the Turkish film industry, including independent filmmaking, mainstream cinema, and government-supported productions.
