Bahçeşehir University’s Faculty of Educational Sciences provides a fresh solution to the most compelling issue of teacher education in both Turkey and abroad. The Faculty educates the teachers of future with the system termed “University within School”. In this system, candidate teachers learn teaching in the classroom in contact with the academician and practitioner. Teacher candidates are one of the most important elements of this system, and raising them in continuous interaction with an expert teacher is one of our original contributions to teacher education. The Faculty of Educational Sciences takes the teacher education to school, its actual place. At the partner schools in Turkey and abroad, Bahçeşehir University matches future teachers and practitioner teachers based on their fields and allow them to teach actively in classrooms and learn by experience. Teacher candidates will also take theoretical courses from lecturers. Furthermore, the study process of teacher candidates will be determined by lecturers as well as reports and evaluations of the practitioner teacher. In this way, students of Faculty of Educational Sciences will learn teaching directly in schoolclassrooms , not in lecture halls. Teacher candidates are also supported to gain experience at schools of various countries throughout their study, in order to improve their international knowledge and experience. In this context, Bahçeşehir University’s Faculty of Educational Sciences executed comprehensive educational contracts especially with long-established and prestigious universities in the USA. To this end, the Faculty conducts joint works with the world’s leading teacher training and education institutions, including Columbia University Teachers College, New York University (NYU) Steinhardt Educational Faculty, Wheelock College, and Bank Street College. Teaching language of the faculty is English.
The First “University within School” of Turkey
Bahçeşehir University’s Faculty of Educational Sciences aims at raising teachers who love their profession, conducting nationally and internationally important studies in various areas of education, sharing such studies and the knowledge produced there with other national and international researcher and implementer persons, agencies and institutions, especially the Ministry of National Education, and thus contributing to the improvement of development and welfare level of our country and entire humanity. Today, internationalisation is very important in education as well, and thus the Faculty aims at raising teachers who live in harmony with different cultures, and are open to new things and equipped in the field of technology. Teacher candidates are one of the most important elements of the applied education system, and raising them in continuous interaction with an expert teacher under the model called “University within School” is one of our original contributions to the teacher education. In this context, Bahçeşehir Uğur Educational Institutions open their practice areas to teacher candidates. It is our aim to raise teachers at international standards and provide an internationally valid diploma in order to enable them work anywhere in the world. Teacher candidates are also supported to gain experience, in order to improve their international knowledge and experience. To this end, the Faculty of Educational Sciences makes collaborations with the world-wide known universities in the USA, including Wheelock College, Columbia University Teachers College, Bank Street College and New York University Steinhardt Educational Faculty.
