Course Objectives: The main objective of the course is to develop an understanding of ınterior architectural practice concentrating on ethical responsibilities, organization and management of firms, project organization and documentation, financial and legal aspects of the profession.

Course Content

The course introduces students the basic of professional practice through lectures and seminars that will be given by professional specialists, chamber representatives or teaching members of various institutions.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents

Week Subject Related Preparation
1) Introduction to Professional Practice fields. Presentation of the themes that will be discussed during the educational period. To determine the subject of the following seminar and to have a contact with the professional specialist who will be invited to hold the seminar.
2) Seminar "Working fields of an Interior Architect, the duties and resposabilities." Starting of Assignment 1 An event occured during the month and closely interesting the profession. Comments on the event. To determine the subject of the following seminar and to have a contact with the professional specialist who will be invited to hold the seminar.
3) Seminar Organization of a Private Interior Architectural Office (Office boss, designers, chief architects, senior architects, junior architects, draftsmen, model makers, organizers, construction controlling elements) To determine the subject of the following seminar and to have a contact with the professional specialist who will be invited to hold the seminar.
4) Seminar Drawing Submissions Organization of an Interior Architectural Project (Needs, contacts with client and advisors, building program phase, contract, preliminary drawings, working and detail drawings, meetings with clients and advisors, specifications, tender documents and model preparations, submissions, adjudication. Submission of Assignment 1 To be in contact with the Interior Architectural Office to be visited during next class period.
5) Visit to an Interior Architectural Office. Discussing about the problems and professional life. Starting of Assignment 2 An event occured during the month and closely interesting the profession. To determine the subject of the following seminar and to have a contact with the professional specialist who will be invited to hold the seminar.
6) Seminar Financial Organization of a Private Interior Architectural Office (Incomes, salaries, taxes, insurance premiums, general fees) Determination of the midterm examination questions.
7) Midterm examination Submission of Assignment 2 To determine the subject of the following seminar and to have a contact with the professional specialist who will be invited to hold the seminar.
8) Organization of an Official Architectural Office. (Ministers, undersecretaries, general directors, directors, architects, draftsmen, tender documents organizers, construction-controlling elements). Starting of Assignment 3 An event occured during the month and closely interesting the profession. Comments on the event. To determine the subject of the following seminar and to have a contact with the professional specialist who will be invited to hold the seminar.
9) Seminar What doea the terminology "ethics" sigify in Architeture and Interior Architecture. To determine the subject of the following seminar and to have a contact with the professional specialist who will be invited to hold the seminar.
10) Seminar What does the terminology "copyrights" mean in Architecture and Interior Architecture. Submission of the Assignments 3. To determine the subject of the following seminar and to have a contact with the professional specialist who will be invited to hold the seminar. Preparation of the questions of the midterm examination

12) Seminar What is the Chamber of Architects or Chamber of Interior Architects. What are the reciprocal duties and responsibilities of the architects and the Chambers? 13) Seminar Professional Organization of a Construction Site (Schedule, project time programming, cost controlling, quality controlling, communication, procurement, contract administration) To determine the subject of the following seminar and to have a contact with the professional specialist who will be invited to hold the seminar.
14) Seminar Interior Architects as Advisors in Private or Public Companies. Duties and responsibilites. Determination of the final examination questions
15) Final examination Evaluation the final examination, fixing the grades and transmit to the registration office.

Sources

Course Notes / Textbooks: The procedure of the course will be in the form of seminars constituted by the reciprocal questions and answers between the students snd the invited specialist. The instructor will devolop course notes based upon these discussions and will distribute at the beginning of the following lecture.
