Course Objectives: Objective of this course is to provide theoretical basis, rules, and aspects of regional policy and regional development in EU countries. The course will get students familiar with the idea of Euro-pean Union regional policy and its evolution, institutions, mechanism, and financing. Essential part of the course will be focusing on contemporary problems of EU regional policy, regional development in selected countries, differences and priorities. The course will particularly analyze regional development processes and offer students a variety of ‘good practices’. Case study analysis will be an important component of the course.

3. Acquire the ability to indicate factors of regional development
4. Develop skills to compare and value conducted regional policy and its effects in selected countries.
5. Possess knowledge of how to apply integration theories to empirical studies of European integration.

Course Content

This senior year course on Regional Policy and Rural Development introduces students to the fundamentals of regional development by giving a thorough analysis on the historical evolution of regions and regionalization in the European Union. The focus of the course is the EU Regional Policy, its instruments and how Turkey adapts to this policy.
