Course Objectives: This course aims to provide students beginning to the education of architecture with the ability to use two- and three-dimensional drawing, modeling, visualization, and image processing software as architectural representation tools.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
Ability to use appropriate representational media, such as traditional graphic and digital technology skills, to convey essential formal elements at each stage of the programming and design process.

Course Content

In this course, two-dimensional architectural drawing, three-dimensional modeling and image processing software are provided for the needs of architecture students. Thus, students will be able to benefit from digital tools from the design stage to the presentation stage.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents

Week Subject Related Preparation
1) Introduction to the basic concepts of information technologies and computer graphics in architecture. Computer aided drafting software (AutoCAD): Advanced drawing and editing commands, layers, line types.
2) AutoCAD: Advanced editing commands. Architectural project drawing: Plan, section, view studies, dimensioning.
3) AutoCAD: Architectural project drawing, printing/plotting settings.
4) Digital image processing software (Adobe Photoshop): Raster Graphics, Layers, compositing, image and text editing and transformation tools
5) Adobe Photoshop: Digital image processing: Selection, filter and image enhancement tools
6) Adobe Photoshop: Advanced editing and modifying tools
7) Mixed-media: Working with CAD data
8) Midterm exam
9) Three dimensional Geometric Modelling Software (Sketchup): Basic modelling and precision tools
10) SketchUp: Components, groups, section/view and simple modeling techniques
11) SketchUp: Working with CAD data, architectural modeling, adding materials, styling preferences.
12) Introduction to Enscape: Adding advanced material to a model made in Sketch Up, lighting and rendering settings.
13) Mixed media: Coordinated work with AutoCAD, Sketch Up, Enscape and Adobe Photoshop. Importing/exporting various types of data. Presentation of an architectural project in poster format with all its components.
