Course Objectives: This course is designed to analyse and discuss several crucial issues in global affairs including migration and asylum policies, particularly the migration crisis, securitization of migration in European politics and at global level, the rise of populism, nationalism and far right, and the challenges for liberal democracy, 2024 European and French elections, climate change and climate policies, Green Deal in the EU, digitalization and AI and its influence in global politics, gender equality, and gender policies, Russia-Ukraine war and its impacts, and the role of BRICS, the elections in the USA and its impacts on global politics.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1. Assess the current issues in European politics and global politics
2. Evaluate migration crisis and the global migration issues and challenges
3. Explain climate change and the global climate policies and the Green Deal of the EU.
4. Analyse digitalization, cyber security, the role of AI and regularization of AI and AI Act of EU.
5. Discuss Russia-Ukraine War and its impacts in the region and at global level.
6. Discuss the role of BRICS and the challenges of rise of China.
7. To be able to interpret the possible impacts of the results of the elections in the USA in 2024.

Course Content

Developments in international relations in the 21st century, migration, far right, climate change, gender, artificial intelligence will be analysed.

Teaching methods of the course: Lecture, individual work, group work, invitation of guests/experts, reading, case study, discussion, technology assisted learning, project preparation.
