Course Objectives: This course provides general information about orthoses and prosthetics. Introduction to orthoses, indications, applications, necessary modifications and possible complications. To teach physiotherapy students to plan and implement appropriate treatment programs to increase the effectiveness of orthoses and rehabilitation, and to develop patient-centered problem-solving skills. Introduction to prosthetics, indications, applications, necessary modifications and possible complications. To be able to plan and implement appropriate amputee rehabilitation programs.

1. Define the basic mechanics and principles of orthosis
2. Decide on the correct orthosis indications.
3. Evaluate patients before and after orthosis application.
4. Compare different orthosis materials.
5. Investigate orthosis-related complications.
6. Have knowledge about the parts and manufacturing stages of prostheses.
7. Select appropriate prostheses for amputees or congenital extremity patients.
8. Plan and implement appropriate evaluations in accordance with the prosthesis stage.
9. Plan and implement the appropriate rehabilitation program.
10. Develop amputee-based problem-solving skills.

Course Content

This course includes hand and foot arches and special splinting for them, orthoses suitable for different rheumatological and neurological diseases in the upper and lower extremities, orthoses in various tendon and plexus injuries, trunk orthoses used in spinal diseases, long walking and hip orthoses, and the use of computerized technological support in orthosis and splint application.
