Course Objectives: | In addition to providing students with language awareness by introducing our prominent poets in our cultural history with the periods they lived in, their short life stories, their literary personalities and works, to provide information about the development of our poetry; to develop students' text analysis, interpretation and critical thinking skills with the poetry samples to be discussed. |
The students who have succeeded in this course; The students who succeeded in this course; -will be able to recognize the main features of the historical periods the poets have lived in. -will be able to see the reflections of the daily language of a given period in classical poetry. -will define basic poetic differences among the poets who had lived in the same period. -will be able to identify how a poet uses the language and different meanings he has given to the words. -will be able to critically and analytically compare the poetic language with contemporary Turkish. -will be able to identify historical and cultural motivations behind the classical poetry. -will be able to identify every single characteristics and difference among the poets by comparing him/her with the others analyzed in class. |
Major Turkish poets through the historical evolution of Turkish literature. Teaching methods and techniques used in the course are: lecture, reading, individual work, sample examination, and discussion. |
