Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to introduce the basic elements of the machine and connection elements, and to teach the principles of operation of these elements.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1. Selects proper fasteners required by machine design.
2. Recognizes and effectively uses the bearings elements.
3. Knows how to use the power and motion transmission elements required by machine design.
4. Makes cam design in order to obtain non-linear movements.

Course Content

In this course the following subjects will be taught: fasteners, power and motion transmission systems, non-linear motion transmission mechanisms and bearings.

2) Removable fasteners (screws, bolts)
3) Removable fasteners (wedges, rings, shrink fit connections)
4) Non-removable fasteners (rivets, hot pluggable connections)
5) Non-removable fasteners (soldering, welding)
6) Driveline assembly (Clutches, Gears)
7) Driveline assembly (belt-pulley systems, screws, cam systems)
8) Bearings (plain bearings)
9) Bearings (roller bearings)
10) Transmitting power over long distances (belt-pulley mechanisms)
11) Transmitting power over long distances (chain gears)
12) Designing cam systems.
13) Analysis of moving mechanisms.
14) Analysis of moving mechanisms.
