Profile of the Program

The aim of the program is to train the nurses with a degree of doctor of philosophy that will provide them gain knowledge and skills for conducting research in the field of nursing, and using, implementing and disseminating the study results with a systematic approach for health promotion and quality management in the healthcare systems.

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Nursing

Specific Admission Requirements

In order to study in this program, the applicants are required 1. to hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited institution (applicants with undergraduate degree are required to have a GPA of minumum 3.00/4.00 and 80 points from ALES- SAY), 2. To have undergraduate degree of Nursing, Midwifery programs, 3. To hold minimum SAY 55 points from ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Exam held in Turkey), 4 Language qualification(YDS) to have at least 65 points 5. To be successful in the scientific interview,

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To take a min. of 7 courses with a min. of 240 ECTS credits (21 local), 1 seminar course, 1 qualification exam and a thesis, to succeed in the courses with a grade of at least B, GPA of at least 3.00.

Recognition of Prior Learning

At Bahcesehir University, full-time students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related bylaws. If the content of the course previously taken in another institution is equivalent to the course offered at BAU, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the related faculty/graduate school after the evaluation of the course content.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Nurses are required to be able to take contemporary roles and responsibilities after completion of their Doctor of Philosophy dissertation which will be built up to help adopting innovative and new scientific approaches in research.

Access to Further Studies

The students graduating from this program may apply to post doctoral programs in the field of expertise.

1 To be able to reflect nursing knowledge into practice, and to gain skills and comprehensive and contemporary knowledge, and develop critical and creative thinking skills.
2 To learn the importance of the application of ethical principles and committees in health care for the individual and society.
3 To be able to use multidisciplinary and community-based approaches for responding health problems, and meeting needs for health protection and development and for solving health problems of individual, family and community both at national and international levels.
4 To develop skills for combining theoretical knowledge with professional practice learned during expertise in the field of nursing and to synthesize, and to reflect the knowledge into research and practices.
5 To use the contemporary professional and nursing care an information technologies in an advanced level and to able to create new solutions.
6 To be able access to information related to nursing concepts, principles and methods, and to be able to conduct assessment and do scientific research, and to be able reflect the knowledge and skills into practice.
7 To follow up advances in evidence based practice and to conduct evidence-based research that will contribute to professional practices.
8 To follow up emerging technologies and current development and changes in health policy and scientific research in the field of healthcare necessary for the professional practice.
9 To plan, implement and evaluate professional projects and research in collaboration across other disciplines in health care, with a sense of social responsibility.
10 To develop new ideas and methods based on high-level mental processes such as creative and critical thinking, problem solving and decision making.
11 To act as a leader in environments for solving professional and interdisciplinary problems.
12 To conduct studies in field of health based on advanced professional development and lifelong learning principles.
