CINEMA AND MEDIA RESEARCH (ENGLISH, PHD)


Profile of the Program

This PhD programme aims to strengthen cinema, media and cultural studies in the academic field with scientific research methods. The PhD Programme in Cinema and Media Studies aims to offer a framework based on social sciences and humanities to candidates who want to specialise in the fields of cinema, media and culture at national and international levels and lead the way in increasing the demand for similar departments nationwide. This programme aims to combine the work of doctoral candidates with an academic staff of leading academics. The medium of instruction of the PhD Programme in Cinema and Media Studies is English. The programme also aims to support international research and studies and contribute to the discipline internationally.

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Sinema ve medya çalışmaları

Specific Admission Requirements

Candidates who want to apply to the programme must have graduated from a 2-year master's programme with thesis, must have a passing grade from ALES and an English proficiency exam such as YDS, Toefl. The candidate who meets these requirements must get 80 points and above in the oral science exam with the department lecturers.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students accepted to the programme are required to take the proficiency exam after completing 5 electives and 3 compulsory courses. The student who is successful in the qualifying exam must have his/her thesis topic accepted by his/her advisor and thesis monitoring jury. The student who completes the thesis process is entitled to receive the Ph.D. title as a result of successfully defending his/her thesis to the thesis defense jury of 5 professors.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Candidates applying for a PhD programme must have successfully graduated from a master's programme with thesis. Candidates are also required to have basic knowledge in the fields of film theory, film history, film genres, communication theories in the oral exam.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates of the programme will be able to teach at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels in universities and colleges with the Ph.D. title they have earned.

Access to Further Studies

The student who receives the title of PhD in Cinema and Media Studies will have the competence to conduct research, give lectures, conduct thesis supervision, and write academic literature in these fields.

1 Kitle iletişim araçlarının iktidar yapıları, ekonomi ve ideoloji ile tarihsel ve kuramsal ilişkilerini dünya ve Türk film ve medya örnekleri üzerinden tanımlamak. Eleştirel, analitik ve argümantasyon becerilerinin geliştirilmesi ve akademik araştırma yoluyla medya okuryazarlıklarını göstermek üretim biçimleri (kurmaca, belgesel, deneysel ve/veya animasyon), film tarihi ve film teorisi, kitle iletişim teorileri ile ilgili temel terim ve kavramları, başlıca eğilim ve dönemleri tanımlamak ve açıklamak.
