Course Objectives: This course examines the intersection of sport with social and cultural dynamics, focusing on issues of identity, inequality, nationalism, and media representation. Students will explore how sport both reflects and influences societal values and how it functions as a site for social change, inclusion, and conflict.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
By the end of this course, students will:
• Analyze the role of sport in shaping and reflecting cultural values.
• Examine the impact of race, class, gender, and sexuality in sports contexts.
• Understand how media and commercialism influence sport and society.
• Explore global and historical perspectives on sport.
• Evaluate sport as a platform for political expression and activism.

Course Content

Students are encouraged to bring contemporary examples into class discussions, follow athletes and journalists engaged in social issues, and develop critical media literacy throughout the course.
