APPLIED MATHEMATICS (TURKISH, THESIS)


Profile of the Program

The Applied Mathematics M.Sc. program practiced by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science enables the students to conduct advanced research for application in the fields of Engineering, Medicine, Physics, Biology, Computer Sciences under the supervision of advisors. The Applied Mathematics M.Sc. program is designed to enable the graduates to have a successful academic career and carry out scientific research.

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of science

Specific Admission Requirements

In order to study in this program, the applicants are required 1. to hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution, 2. to have a GPA of minimum 2.0 out of 4.00 or equivalence in undergraduate programs, 3. to hold minimum EA 55 points from ALES(Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Exam held in Turkey) or minimum 610 points from “quantitative” part of GRE (Graduate Record Examination), to be successful in scientific exam (written-oral) 3. to be successful in the scientific interview, 4. to submit at least one Letter of Recommendation.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The students studying in this second cycle program with thesis are required: 1. to take a minimum of 7 courses with a minimum of 21 local credits, one seminar course, and a thesis. (The seminar and thesis are non-credit and graded on a pass/fail basis.) 2. to succeed in all the courses with a letter grade of at least C/S 3. to have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 3.00/4.00 with a minimum of 120 ECTS credits.

Recognition of Prior Learning

At Bahcesehir University, full-time students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related bylaws. If the content of the course previously taken in another institution is equivalent to the course offered at BAU, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the related faculty/graduate school after the evaluation of the course content.

For this reason, mathematical analyses have become an indispensable element for various industries. Graduates of Master's program may have the opportunity to work in a variety of departments of public institutions such as Turkish State Planning Organization,Turkish Statistical Institute, banking, insurance and finance sector, R & D and information technology departments of leading companies.The PhD program of Applied Mathematics and Statistics is prepared to gain its graduates a successful academic career in the departments of mathematics, economics, statistics and engineering in high quality universities and the ability of making scientific research in research institutions.

1 Ability to assimilate mathematic related concepts and associate these concepts with each other.
2 Ability to gain qualifications based on basic mathematical skills, problem solving, reasoning, association and generalization.
3 Be able to organize events, for the development of critical and creative thinking and problem solving skills, by using appropriate methods and techniques.

5 Ability to transfer ideas and suggestions, related to topics about his/her field of interest, written and verball.
6 Ability to use mathematical knowledge in technology.
7 To apply mathematical principles to real world problems.
8 Ability to use the approaches and knowledge of other disciplines in Mathematics.
9 Be able to set up and develope a solution method for a problem in mathematics independently, be able to solve and evaluate the results and to apply them if necessary.
10 To be able to link abstract thought that one has to concrete events and to transfer the solutions and examine and interpret the results scientifically by forming experiments and collecting data.
11 To be able to conduct a research either as an individual or as a team member, and to be effective in each related step of the project, to take role in the decision process, to plan and manage the project by using time effectively.
12 To be able to acquire necessary information and to make modeling in any field that mathematics is used and to improve herself/himself,
