MEDICINE


Profile of the Program

The education program is an integrated program that is planned to enable the student to reach the qualifications specified in the faculty graduation goals. The integrated model is organized in a spiral structure based on horizontal and vertical integrations between the phases. The training program consists of three phases, namely Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3. Phase 1: Basic Sciences and Introduction to Clinics (Classes 1, 2, 3) Phase 2: Clinical Clerkships (Classes 4-5) Phase 3: Internship (Class 6) The overall education program consists of 253 ECTS (70.28%) compulsory courses, 75 ECTS (20.83%) departmental elective courses, 16 ECTS (4.44%) non-departmental and general elective courses.

Qualification Awarded

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of MEDICAL DOCTOR

Level of Qualification

This is a Bachelor’s Degree (First Cycle) program.

Specific Admission Requirements

For the admission to Medical Faculty, the students graduated from high school in Turkey must be placed to the program by Student Selection and Placement Center after the centrally held examination; international students are admitted if they have at least 75/100 high school grade point average, besides fulfilling all of the requirements designated by the Higher Education Council.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The students who have completed all of the courses of six-year medical curriculum and got 360 ECTS credits graduate as medical doctors (MD).

Recognition of Prior Learning

At Bahcesehir University , full-time students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related laws. If the content of the course previously taken in another institution is equivalent to the course offered at BAU, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the related faculty/graduate school after the evaluation of the course content.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates of the Faculty of Medicine are entitled to enter the draw organized by the Ministry of Health for compulsory service. As a result of their interest, they work as general practitioners in primary healthcare institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Health (family health centers, district health directorates, hospital emergency services, and 112 Emergency Ambulance Services). In addition, they gain the right to take the Medical Specialization Exam, held twice a year by the Student Selection and Placement Center. According to the results of this exam, those placed as assistant doctors in the hospitals of universities or training and research hospitals of the Ministry of Health start their specialization training.

Access to Further Studies

Medical School graduates can make a doctorate or a residency.

Program Outcomes

1 Integrates the knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired from basic and clinical medical sciences, behavioral sciences and social sciences, and uses them in health service delivery.
2 In patient management, shows a biopsychosocial approach that takes into account the socio-demographic and sociocultural background of the individual, regardless of language, religion, race and gender.
3 In the provision of health services, prioritizes the protection and development of the health of individuals and society.
4 Taking into account the individual, societal, social and environmental factors affecting health; does the necessary work to maintain and improve the state of health.
5 By recognizing the characteristics, needs and expectations of the target audience, provides health education to healthy/sick individuals and their relatives and other healthcare professionals.
6 Shows a safe, rational and effective approach in health service delivery, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and rehabilitation processes.
7 Performs invasive and/or non-invasive procedures in diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and rehabilitation processes in a safe and effective way for the patient.
8 Provides health services by considering patient and employee health and safety.
9 In the provision of health services, takes into account the changes in the physical and socioeconomic environment on a regional and global scale, as well as the changes in the individual characteristics and behaviors of the people who apply to it.
10 Takes good medical practice into account while carrying out his/her profession.
11 Fulfills its duties and obligations within the framework of ethical principles, rights and legal responsibilities required by its profession.
12 Demonstrates decisive behavior in providing high-quality health care, taking into account the integrity of the patient.
13 Evaluates his/her performance in his/her professional practice by considering his/her emotions and cognitive characteristics.
14 Advocates improving the provision of health services by considering the concepts of social reliability and social responsibility for the protection and development of public health.
15 Can plan and carry out service delivery, training and consultancy processes related to individual and community health in cooperation with all components for the protection and development of health.
16 Evaluates the impact of health policies and practices on individual and community health indicators and advocates increasing the quality of health services.

21 Is aware of the duties and responsibilities of the health workers in the health team and acts accordingly.

27 Reaches and critically evaluates current literature knowledge about his/her profession.
