TEXTILE AND FASHION DESIGN


Profile of the Program

The aim of the department is to train individuals who can synthesize art, design, craft, and technology on an international scale in the textile field, primarily in the apparel and weaving sectors, to create high-quality designs. These individuals are expected to be environmentally conscious, responsible, and ethical in their design and production practices, while being aware of the theoretical framework behind their work and capable of perceiving and engaging with the world.

Qualification Awarded

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Textile and Fashion Design

Level of Qualification

This is a Bachelor’s Degree (First Cycle) program.

Specific Admission Requirements

Student admission for this undergraduate program is made through university entrance examinations (YGS) prepared in the framework of the regulations set by Higher Education Council of Turkey (YÖK); followed by the drawing aptitude test conducted by the department. Foreign students are admitted to this program with an internationally recognized high school diploma and through the drawing aptitude test conducted by the department. Additionally, they need to prove their English language level since the medium of instruction at BAU is English.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The students graduating from this programme awarded Bachelor's of Textile and Fashion Design degree.

Recognition of Prior Learning

At Bahcesehir University , full-time students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related by laws. If the content of the course previously taken in another institution is equivalent to the course offered at BAU, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the related faculty/graduate school after the evaluation of the course content.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates can work in the textile industry on national or international platforms in design or production centers; in the design departments of various companies and brands as fashion designers, textile designers, or accessory designers. They can also work in product development, marketing, or purchasing departments. Additionally, they can pursue careers in costume design, styling, or fashion writing in fields such as theater, television, and magazines.

Access to Further Studies

The students graduating from this program may apply to second cycle (Master's degree) programmes.

Program Outcomes

1 Understands the principles of artistic creation and basic design and applies the art and design objects he creates within this framework.
2 Conducts the multifaceted research required for textile and fashion design processes and analyzes and interprets the results.
3 Creates original and applicable fabric, clothing and pattern designs by using elements from different historical periods and cultures in accordance with his purpose.
4 Recognizes textile raw materials and equipments.
5 Uses computer programs effectively in the garment and fabric surface design process.
6 Has professional technical knowledge regarding the implementation of clothing designs and production; In this context, recognizes and uses technological tools and equipment.
7 Understands the importance of interdisciplinary interaction and communication in textile and clothing design-production-presentation processes and reflects this on the processes.
8 Works in a programmed and disciplined manner in professional practices.
9 Realizes the necessity of lifelong learning to maintain his productivity, creativity and professional competence.
10 Understands, adopts and applies ethical responsibilities in professional practices; Has knowledge of relevant legal regulations.
11 Establishes effective visual, written and verbal communication in the field of textile and fashion design.
12 Reflects his knowledge on current and contemporary issues from all fields to his professional theoretical and practical studies on textile and clothing design; Understands the social and universal effects of these issues.
13 Has sufficient awareness about social justice, environmental awareness, quality culture and protection of cultural values.
