COMMUNICATION AND DESIGN


Profile of the Program

Communication and Design Department enables creative individuals who aim to design conceptual and effective visual messages to create stimulating and trendsetting design solutions in both national and international platforms. The print, time-based and interactive media equally takes part in the program. The creative concept development process transforms into products of these media by the practical structure of the department. The focus of the department is directing the design process and finding creative visual design solutions. The department facilitates the application of design for varied media and by its sectoral connections, the department enables the realization of the designs.

Qualification Awarded

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Arts

Level of Qualification

This is a Bachelor’s Degree (First Cycle) program.

Specific Admission Requirements

Student admission for this undergraduate program is made through university entrance examinations (YGS-LYS) prepared in the framework of the regulations set by Higher Education Council of Turkey (YÖK). International students are accepted to this undergraduate program according to the score of one of the international exams they take such as SAT,ACT etc. or according to their high school diploma score. Exchange student admission is made according to the requirements determined by bilateral agreements signed by BAU and the partner university. Visiting students can enroll for the courses offered in this program upon the confirmation of the related academic unit. Additionally, they need to prove their English language level since the medium of instruction at BAU is English.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The students studying in this undergraduate program are required to have a Cumulative Grade Points Average (Cum.GPA) of not less than 2.00/4.00 and have completed all the courses with at least a letter grade of D/S in the program in order to graduate. The minimum number of ECTS credits required for graduation is 240. It is also mandatory for the students to complete their compulsory internship 30 work days of duration and at the corporations approved by the department.

Recognition of Prior Learning

At Bahcesehir University , full-time students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related by laws. If the content of the course previously taken in another institution is equivalent to the course offered at BAU, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the related faculty/graduate school after the evaluation of the course content.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Students under this program specialize in visual communication design in the increasingly developing digital environment. Graduates have the chance to work in the fields of graphic design, advertisement design, web design, interactive information design, information design, multimedia design, video and movie technology, 3D visualization, basic animation and digital image production.

Access to Further Studies

The students graduating from this program may apply to second cycle (Master's degree) programs.

Program Outcomes

1 Create design oriented application for the visual communication design field.
2 Resolve visual communication problems via concept based designs and an integrated perspective in the visual communication design field.
3 Qualify in design directing through analysis and design processes.
4 Display creative thinking, approach and production process skills.
5 Integrate basic fields of visual communication; print, time-based and interactive media, through mastering each one of these fields individually.
6 Identify complementary design solutions in the visual field in order to solve communication problems.
7 Perform necessary operational skills in order to finalize products in the visual communication design field.
8 Evaluate recent design trends and the evolving aesthetic perspectives.
9 Use recent design softwares that coincide with the developing information technologies and communication channels.
10 Interpret theoretical, historical and intellectual roots of the visual communication design field.
11 Perform necessary time management in order to complete a visual communication design project.
12 Demonstrate leadership qualities in a design team as well as individual skills during the progress of a visual communication design project.
13 Display compositional solutions and aesthetic skills to fulfill design needs in a visual communication design work.
14 Develop academical, intellectual and critical point of view for global, local and individual visual communication design works.
