Profile of the Program

The Music Doctorate Program is based on a principle of study that takes scientific music studies as its axis; With the goal of bringing together the theories of music and the structurally supporting disciplines in accordance with academic criteria, it is based on the mission of opening a professional field for doctoral candidates who can produce qualified studies, bringing the students into the ranks of reputable and sought-after academics in their disciplines under the guidance of competent teaching staff, and integrating them into the academic world. In accordance with this mission, the penning of enriched thesis contents, the creation of an expanded basis of perspective and awareness is aimed. It is among the basic principles and objectives of the program that qualities such as clarity, originality and, most importantly, the awareness of academic ethics has a prominent place in each study to be produced within this framework. In our Doctoral Program, we aim to focus on academic studies with a communicative perspective as much as possible at the doctoral level of the music program and to train academician candidates who will attain considerable intellectual accumulation in their area of expertise and respect academic ethical values as valuable additions for the scientific and art scene of our country.

Specific Admission Requirements

In order to apply to the doctoral program, candidates must have a thesis-based master's degree and must have an ALES score of no less than 55 points in the score type of the program they are applying for, as determined by the Institute Board recommendation and Senate decision. In addition to the ALES score, a written scientific assessment exam and/or an additional interview result and a master's grade point average may also be evaluated for the acceptance of those who will apply to the doctoral program. Matters related to this evaluation, application conditions and other matters regarding student admission are announced to candidates through appropriate means upon the recommendation of the Institute Board of Directors and the rules determined by the Senate.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students who complete this program are entitled to receive the degree of Doctor (PhD) in Music.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students who will continue their education at Bahçeşehir University may be exempted from the courses they took at their previous educational institution within the framework of certain regulations. If the content of the course taken is compatible with the content of the course given at BAU and is approved by the institute directorate, the student may be exempted from this course.

Students who successfully complete the program can apply for post-doctoral studies according to their areas of expertise.
