Course Objectives: This is an introductory course on Operations Research topic, which is an interdisciplinary approach to complex problems using applied mathematical tools. Operations Research (OR) and Management Science (MS) are often used synonymously. In this course we will specifically concentrate on business and logistics problems and emphasize the importance of modeling. In lab sessions students are helped to create mathematical models of business problems using spreadsheet programs. Students will also be introduced to basic OR techniques, such as linear programming, graph theory, multi-criteria decision making, and simulation. The course is application oriented, and improves students’ computer skills by allowing them to use spreadsheet programs (e.g., MS Excel, Openoffice Calculator, etc.) in modeling practices.

Learning Outputs

The students who have succeeded in this course;
At the end of the course, you will:
1. Undersanding the principles of management science and how it applies to logistics operations;
2. Apply quantitative methods to decision making and problem solving in logistic problems;
3. Use software tools to solve linear programming problems;
4. Be able to analyze and evaluate results of optimization models in logistics;
5. Apply optimization techniques tp real-world logistics problems, including facility location, transportation routing and inventory management.
