Course Objectives: To gain knowledge and insight in the genetic causes of congenital and acquired disorders. To gain insight in the possibilities of genetic diagnostics ( pre-implantation, prenatal, postnatal) and genetic counseling. In addition, students have an idea of the ethical implications.

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1. Define applications of genetic counseling in medicine.
2. Evaluate basics of genetic counseling.
3. Acquire knowledge about genetic diseases and genetic tests.
4. Discuss ethics of genetic counseling and genetic tests.

Course Content

It covers the topics covered in learning outcomes (applications of genetic counseling in medicine, basics of genetic counseling, genetic diseases and genetic tests, ethics of genetic counseling and genetic tests).
