Course Objectives: | The goal of this course is to develop a general understanding on restoration/conservation. This aim is tried to be achieved through the discussion of visual examples in Turkey and abroad. Conflict between theory and practice will be questioned throughout the semester. Contribution of the participants is expected. |
The students who have succeeded in this course; I. Define the concepts of “Cultural heritage” and “Natural heritage”, II. Recognize the concept of “value” to understand the importance and qualities of cultural values, III. Identify the characteristics of cultural heritage at environmental scale, IV. Discuss the concepts of “conservation” and “restoration” in relation to human factor, V. Recognize the international theoretical approaches in the field of conservation, VI. Compare different attitudes of conservation in a number of European countries, VII. Discuss the terms in relation to the native conditions of Turkey, VIII. Teast this accumulation of knowledge on a cocrete example . IX. Discuss the results of this survey according to the contemporary conservation theories. |
This course tries to find answers for the questions of: * What is cultural heritage ? * Why do we conserve? * How to conserve? * Conservation for whom? These questions are disscussed through the examples from the world. |
